Enter the total MMSE score (0–30) obtained during in-person testing. This calculator does not administer the test and does not replace clinical evaluation.
MMSE (Mini-Mental State Examination) was introduced by Folstein, Folstein and McHugh in 1975 as a brief cognitive screen. The test is performed on paper with the patient: orientation (10 points), three-word registration (3), attention and calculation (5), delayed recall (3), language and visuospatial tasks (9). Range 0–30. This calculator does not administer the test – enter the score the patient obtained during in-person testing. Interpretation: ≥27 normal, 24–26 mild deficit, 19–23 mild cognitive impairment, 10–18 moderate dementia, <10 severe. With low education (<8 years) the normal-range cutoff drops to 21. The Spanish Society of Neurology (SEN) recommends confirmatory neuropsychological testing and workup for reversible causes: B12, TSH, depression, neuroimaging.
