Insomnia and sleep disorders
Not recommended
Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is an inhibitory neurotransmitter sold as a supplement and promoted for better sleep and insomnia. Studies have not shown convincing benefit for this use: oral GABA barely reaches the brain, and there is no solid evidence behind this application. For ongoing insomnia, cognitive behavioral therapy helps, along with treatment a doctor selects when needed. Do not use this supplement in place of approaches with proven benefit, or you risk missing the care you actually need.
