Emollient from coconut fatty acids and butylene glycol. Delivers soft slip and light absorption without a film.

CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
Mild modern emollient with low comedogenicity risk. Often features in Korean light fluids.
Butylene Glycol Cocoate is an ester of butylene glycol and coconut fatty acids (mainly lauric C12, myristic C14, palmitic C16). A synthetic emollient of plant origin. Mechanism. On skin it forms a thin lipid film with mild slip. Fills intercellular spaces in the upper stratum corneum, improves surface smoothness, and lowers transepidermal water loss (TEWL). A light texture without a greasy film – suitable for daytime formulas. Where applied. Light creams, emulsions, products for oily and combination skin, makeup primers, mattifying products. Concentration 1–10%. In Spain part of La Roche-Posay Effaclar Mat, Mesoestetic Hydra Vital, ISDIN. Safety. CIR confirmed safety of coconut fatty acid–butylene glycol esters. Non-comedogenic up to 5% (despite lauric acid content – free lauric acid is comedogenic, but esterified is far gentler). Hypoallergenic, non-irritating. Topical systemic absorption is minimal. Pregnancy and lactation – safe. Used without restriction. Functional role. A formula emollient aid, not a cosmetic active. No standalone anti-age benefit.
