Butylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate is a mixed ester of butylene glycol with caprylic (C8) and capric (C10) fatty acids. A synthetic light emollient. Mechanism. On skin it gives a silky dry slip without a greasy film – one of the most pleasant emollients sensorially. Fills intercellular spaces of the upper stratum corneum, smooths the surface, and improves distribution of sunscreen filters. Its light texture makes it popular in daytime, mineral sunscreens, and makeup primers. Where applied. Light creams and serums, mineral sunscreens, foundations, oily-skin products, primers. Concentration 1–15%. In Spain – ISDIN Fotoprotector Fusion Water, La Roche-Posay Anthelios Fluide, Avène Sunscreen. Safety. CIR confirmed safety of fatty-acid–butylene glycol esters. Non-comedogenic.
