Caprylhydroxamic Acid (INCI: Caprylhydroxamic Acid) is a mild preservative derived from caprylic acid. It protects a formula from fungal and bacterial growth and, unlike many preservatives, stays active across a wide pH range, which helps paraben-free formulas. This is a functional component. Its job is the stability and microbiological safety of the product, not a cosmetic benefit to the skin, so it is not judged by skincare results. In pregnancy and breastfeeding topical use poses no problem; the concentrations are very low and it has no systemic relevance. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy potential. It is often a well-accepted option for sensitive skin compared with more reactive preservatives.
