Amphoteric surfactant derived from coconut fatty acids. A relative of cocamidopropyl betaine: delivers mild cleansing, stabilizes foam and reduces irritation from anionic surfactants.
Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
Mainstream amphoteric surfactant. Well tolerated; rare cases of contact allergy (usually from synthesis impurities).
Coco-Betaine is a mild amphoteric surfactant from coconut-oil fatty acids. Structurally similar to cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB) but without the amide group – instead, direct fatty-acid-to-betaine bonds. As a result it less often contains DMAPA impurity (the main CAPB allergen). Where applied. Shampoos, shower gels, micellar products, baby cosmetics, intimate hygiene products. Concentration 1-10%. In Spain – in Klorane, Mustela, Babé Pediátrico, niche eco-cosmetic brands Mádara, Weleda. Mechanism. Amphoteric – gently solubilizes dirt and sebum. Works alongside anionic surfactants, reducing irritation. Stabilizes foam. Evidence base. Functional surfactant. No direct clinical efficacy. Tolerance profile is close to CAPB but with lower contact allergy risk due to the missing amide group and related impurities. Safety. CIR/SCCS confirm safety at cosmetic concentrations. Allergic reactions are rare, less frequent than for CAPB. Non-comedogenic. Pregnancy and lactation – safe. Acceptable at any stage. Suitable for baby cosmetics from birth. Suitable for. Universal, including atopics, eczema, sensitive skin. An alternative to CAPB with confirmed DMAPA allergy. Pharmacy atopic brands (La Roche-Posay Lipikar, Avène Trixera) often use coco-betaine instead of CAPB.

The Evigrade extension adds an evidence panel to Wildberries, Goldapple, Letu, iHerb, Sephora and 12 more stores. This ingredient and every other one in the product show evidence-tier, allergen risk and pregnancy/lactation flags at a glance.
Coco-Betaine is considered safe during pregnancy at typical cosmetic concentrations. Systemic absorption through the skin is minimal.
Coco-Betaine suits: normal, dry, oily, combination, sensitive.
