Corallina Officinalis Extract is derived from the red coralline algae Corallina officinalis, which lives in the tidal zone of the Atlantic and Mediterranean. Contains calcium carbonate, magnesium, amino acids, polysaccharides. Mechanism. Marketed as a 'mineral boost' for skin: a source of calcium, magnesium, zinc, silicon. Polysaccharides give a mild humectant effect. The claimed anti-aging effect via collagen synthesis stimulation is based on in vitro models. Where applied. Anti-aging creams and serums with a marine theme, thalassotherapy lines, products labeled 'marine extracts'. In Spain – Bionatural, Mar Adentro, in spa lines of Canary Islands and Galicia resorts. Evidence base. No direct human RCTs. Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity confirmed in vitro (Kim 2010). All marketing claims about an anti-aging skin effect are extrapolation. Safety. CIR has not issued a direct evaluation. By the general marine extract profile: low irritation and allergy potential. Rare reactions possible in patients allergic to iodine and seafood. Pregnancy and lactation – safe at standard cosmetic concentrations. Best suited to: dry and mature skin within multi-ingredient formulas, body products with a 'thalasso' marketing angle. No proven standalone meaningful skin benefit.
