Pre-neutralized acrylate thickener with built-in emulsifying ability. Gives creams a gel-like texture, light slip and stability across pH and electrolytes.
Topical application
CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
High-molecular-weight polymer without stratum corneum penetration. Safety profile is high, reactions are isolated.
Hydroxyethyl Acrylate / Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer (trade name Simulgel or Sepinov) is a synthetic acrylate polymer with built-in emulsifying ability. Combines thickener, stabilizer, and emulsifier in one ingredient. Where applied. Creams, serums, gels, post-procedure products – especially "gel-creams" with a fresh, liquid feel. Provides a light gel texture with a cooling finish, leaves no film. In Spain in La Roche-Posay Effaclar Mat, Vichy Mineral 89, Bioderma Hydrabio. Properties. Stable at pH 3-12 and high electrolyte concentrations – allows formulating with acids (AHA, BHA, ascorbic) and salts (sodium chloride) where standard carbomers lose viscosity. Cold-process (no heating) – suitable for heat-sensitive actives. Safety. CIR rated the copolymer safe at current cosmetic concentrations (2014). Irritation and sensitization are rare. Not comedogenic. Pregnancy and lactation – safe topically. Suitable for all skin types.
