Light texture emollient: removes the greasy afterfeel of creams and helps the product spread. Acne-prone skin tolerates it worse – in some people it worsens clogged pores.
Topical application
CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
Comedogenic potential confirmed in rabbit ear tests and part of human studies. For oily and acne-prone skin the formula is better replaced with a triglyceride alternative.
Isopropyl Myristate (IPM) is a synthetic ester of isopropanol and myristic acid (C14). Clear oily non-sticky liquid with a light dry finish. One of the oldest synthetic emollients – in use since the 1950s. Where applied. Creams, lotions, shaving products, lipsticks, makeup removers, antiperspirants, pharmaceutical ointments (1-50%). Provides silky slip, removes the oily afterfeel from creams, speeds product spreading. Often as solvent for retinoids and UV filters. In Spain in Babaria, Eucerin, Bioderma formulas, men's shaving products. Comedogenicity. IPM topped comedogenic ingredient lists after early rabbit ear studies (Fulton 1972). Newer human acne studies (Mills 1992) showed comedogenicity on human skin is lower than rabbit models – but use cautiously in acne-prone patients. On oily skin in some patients it worsens pore clogging and comedonal acne. Safety. CIR rated isopropyl myristate safe at cosmetic concentrations (1982, re-evaluated 2018). EU SCCS has set no restrictions. Irritation and sensitization are rare. Pregnancy and lactation – safe topically. Suitable for dry and normal skin, no restrictions on body. With acne-prone facial skin prefer non-comedogenic emollients (squalane, capric/caprylic triglyceride).

The Evigrade extension adds an evidence panel to Wildberries, Goldapple, Letu, iHerb, Sephora and 12 more stores. This ingredient and every other one in the product show evidence-tier, allergen risk and pregnancy/lactation flags at a glance.
Isopropyl Myristate is considered safe during pregnancy at typical cosmetic concentrations. Systemic absorption through the skin is minimal.
Isopropyl Myristate suits: dry, normal. Use with caution in: oily, combination.
Light texture emollient: removes the greasy afterfeel of creams and helps the product spread.
On the Fulton scale 5/5 – high comedogenicity. For acne-prone skin, a rating of 3 or higher suggests choosing an alternative.
The INCI name is Isopropyl Myristate. It may also appear as: Изопропил миристат.
