Natural preservative – the filtrate of radish-root fermentation with Leuconostoc kimchii lactic-acid bacteria. Contains antimicrobial peptides. Used in clean formulas instead of phenoxyethanol and parabens. Weaker than synthetic preservatives and works best as part of a system.
Topical application
CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
Natural preservative for clean formulas. On its own it is weaker than synthetic analogues and often needs additional boosters. Claims of skin-probiotic action are marketing – this is purely a preservative.
Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate is the product of fermenting Raphanus sativus root with Leuconostoc kimchii lactic-acid bacteria (the same used for kimchi). After 24-48 hours of fermentation the liquid is filtered, and short-chain antimicrobial peptides (bacteriocins), lactic acid, and other metabolites remain in the filtrate. INCI: Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate. Trade name: Leucidal Liquid (Active Micro Technologies). In cosmetics it is used as a natural preservative for clean formulas and products certified by ECOCERT, COSMOS, NATRUE. The main active is a natural peptide with antimicrobial activity against a broad range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Use levels are 2-4%, noticeably higher than synthetic preservatives, which limits sensorial design (a distinctive fermented smell). Real-world efficacy. In ISO 11930 challenge tests, the filtrate alone passes criterion B (with acceptable microbial growth) but not always A. Reliable clean formulas combine it with other boosters – glyceryl caprylate, phenoxyethanol-free systems, or antimicrobial aromas such as tea-tree oil. Pregnancy safety. Topical use is safe. Systemic absorption through intact skin is minimal. Lactic acid and peptides are natural metabolites. Skin tolerance. Low irritation and allergen potential. Non-comedogenic. Some users may react to the residual fermentation odor. Marketing claims. Manufacturers sometimes position the filtrate as a skin probiotic. But Leuconostoc is not part of the healthy skin microbiome – it is a fermentation bacterium. The filtrate does not change the skin microbiome; it is purely a preservative.

SafeThe Evigrade extension adds an evidence panel to Wildberries, Goldapple, Letu, iHerb, Sephora and 12 more stores. This ingredient and every other one in the product show evidence-tier, allergen risk and pregnancy/lactation flags at a glance.
Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate is considered safe during pregnancy at typical cosmetic concentrations. Systemic absorption through the skin is minimal.
