Rice Starch (Oryza Sativa Rice Starch) is a pure polysaccharide from the endosperm of the rice grain. Composition: amylopectin (70–80%) and amylose (20–30%). Mechanism. Absorbent – absorbs sebum and sweat. As a powder mattifies skin and masks pore visibility. In creams and masks works as a light thickener and filler. Does not dissolve in water at room temperature. Where applied. Dry shampoos, face and body powders, stick antiperspirants, masks, baby powders. Concentration 5–50%. Evidence base. No clinical RCTs required – a functional absorbent. CIR confirmed safety. Safety. Hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic. Pregnancy and lactation – topically safe. Suitable for children's and infant cosmetics. Context. Rice starch is a natural alternative to talc. Since 2018, after studies linking talc with ovarian cancer, many baby powder brands (Johnson's, Burt's Bees) switched to rice or corn starch.
