Pantolactone is the synthetic lactone form of pantothenic acid (vit B5). On skin it hydrolyzes to pantothenic acid – the active form. Mechanism. A pantothenic acid source with better stability and epidermal penetration. After penetration it is converted to coenzyme A – a key cofactor of cellular metabolism and lipid synthesis. Where applied. Repair serums and creams, burn and irritation products, hair products. Concentration 0.5–5%. Evidence base. Pantolactone clinical RCTs are few.
