PCA Dimethicone is a modified silicone, with a PCA group (pyrrolidone carboxylic acid) attached to the dimethicone molecule. Combines properties of an occlusive silicone and a humectant. Mechanism. Forms a thin film on the skin like ordinary dimethicone, but the PCA fragment additionally pulls moisture from the air. Dual action – occlusive + humectant in one molecule. Where applied. Dry-skin creams, makeup primers, hair products. Concentration 1–5%. In niche cosmetics. Evidence base. No clinical RCTs required – a functional filler. CIR confirmed safety. Safety. Hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic. Pregnancy and lactation – topically safe.
