Helps blend oil and water phases in creams, lotions and cleansers, and dissolves fragrance oils in water-based toners. Where applied. Face and body creams, lotions, shampoos, fragranced toners (0.5-5%). In body products commonly seen in La Roche-Posay, Eucerin, Vichy. Safety. CIR confirmed PEG-40 stearate safety (Final Report 1983, reassessment 2010). No systemic absorption through intact skin. Hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic. On damaged skin (open eczema, extensive wounds) the EWG suggests caution with PEGylated emulsifiers. No restrictions on intact skin. Pregnancy and lactation – safe.
