Mechanism. Disrupts microbial membranes through hydrophobic interaction. Active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and yeasts. Weaker than phenoxyethanol – typically used in combination. Safety. SCCS confirmed safety up to 2%. CIR assessment is ongoing. Contact dermatitis is rare (Schnuch 2018, <0.1%).
