Physalis Angulata Extract is a Solanaceae plant from tropical Latin America and Africa. Contains withasteroids (physalins A, B, F), flavonoids, alkaloids. Where applied. Marketed as an anti-inflammatory component in natural lines, serums, problem-skin products (0.1-1%). Rare in Spanish and European formulas. Evidence base. Data come from Latin American ethnopharmacology (Brazil 2018). In vitro shows anti-inflammatory activity of physalins via NF-κB inhibition. No topical human RCTs. Safety. The plant contains tropane alkaloids (related to atropine). Systemic high-dose ingestion has shown neurotoxic effects. At cosmetic concentrations through intact skin, systemic absorption is minimal. Contact dermatitis possible in patients with Solanaceae allergy (potato, tomato, eggplant, pepper). Pregnancy and lactation – avoid. Solanaceae plants taken systemically have been linked to pregnancy-loss risk. Topical use at cosmetic concentrations – insufficient data; avoidance recommended. Alternatives for sensitive skin – niacinamide, centella, adenosine.
