Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate (PGPR) is a water-in-oil (W/O) emulsifier. Produced from castor oil and polyglycerin. Where applied. Sunscreen milks, BB creams, water-resistant decorative cosmetics, very dry skin creams (0.5-3%). Common in ISDIN, Bioderma Photoderm, Heliocare 360 sunscreens. Mechanism. Stabilises fine water droplets in the oil phase, providing water resistance to the finished product – important for sunscreens and sport/beach formulations. Safety. CIR confirmed safety. Not restricted by EU Annex IV/V. Also approved as a food additive (E476). Hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic. Pregnancy and lactation – safe.
