Table salt. In cosmetics it works as a thickener for surfactant systems and a viscosity regulator in shampoos and shower gels.
Topical application
CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
Technological ingredient without standalone activity. In a formula it helps achieve the usual gel viscosity and skin tolerates it well.
Sodium Chloride (table salt). In cosmetics – a functional component with two roles. First – thickener for surfactant systems: adding 0.5-2% NaCl to a shampoo or shower gel with sodium laureth sulfate sharply increases viscosity (through micellar structure formation, the 'salt effect'). Second – tonicity and osmotic regulator in face physiological solutions, thermal sprays, eye products. Where applied. Shampoos, shower gels, face foams (0.2-2%), mist toners (isotonic 0.9% saline), salt scrubs (5-30% as a mild abrasive), sea-salt masks, intimate hygiene products. In Spain – in mass products and in premium 'sea salt' scrubs. Thickening effect – a narrow window. NaCl thickens only to a point: above the optimum (>3% for most systems) viscosity drops back. Formulators carefully select the concentration. Safety. CIR has not issued a standalone review (FDA GRAS status as food additive). Hypoallergenic. Well tolerated on intact skin. On damaged skin (open cuts, eczema flares) – uncomfortable stinging but no harm. Salt scrub controversy. Coarse NaCl crystals as abrasive – traumatize skin, especially on the face. Acceptable in moderation for the body; contraindicated for the face. Face alternatives – enzymatic exfoliants or chemical AHA/BHA peels. Pregnancy and lactation – safe. A natural food component, no restrictions in any product.

The Evigrade extension adds an evidence panel to Wildberries, Goldapple, Letu, iHerb, Sephora and 12 more stores. This ingredient and every other one in the product show evidence-tier, allergen risk and pregnancy/lactation flags at a glance.
Sodium Chloride is considered safe during pregnancy at typical cosmetic concentrations. Systemic absorption through the skin is minimal.
Sodium Chloride suits: oily, dry, combination, normal.
