Stearyl Stearate is an ester of stearyl alcohol and stearic acid. An emollient with a soft non-greasy slip. Substitutes mineral oil and paraffin in clean formulas. Mechanism. Forms a thin film on the skin, lowers TEWL, gives a 'velvet' after-feel. Insoluble in water, mixes well with oils and silicones. Where applied. Face and body creams, balms, lipsticks, foundations. Concentration 1-10%. Safety. CIR confirmed safety at all concentrations. Non-sensitizing, non-comedogenic. No systemic absorption. Pregnancy and lactation – safe.
