Triacontanyl PVP is a copolymer of vinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and triacontanol (a C30 fatty alcohol). INCI: Triacontanyl PVP. A waxy solid sold as Antaron WP-660 (Ashland). It is common in sunscreens labeled as water-resistant 80 min. In cosmetics it works as a water-resistant film-former: after application it forms a thin hydrophobic film on the skin that holds UV filters and pigments in place. It is used in sunscreens, tints, eyeshadows, mascaras and lipsticks. Use levels run from 0.5 to 5%. Pregnancy safety. The molecule is too large to penetrate the skin. CIR rates the safety profile of PVP copolymers as acceptable. Skin profile. Low irritation and allergen potential. Non-comedogenic. Suitable for all skin types. No active effects – a functional component, without which SPF is easily washed off by sweat and water.
