Synthetic ester (triol + 2-ethylhexanoic acid). Lightweight emollient with a slippery texture – used in sunscreens, foundations, primers. Non-comedogenic, leaves no film. Often substitutes mineral oil and silicones in clean formulations.
Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
Functional emollient with safety confirmed by CIR. Works by physically filling intercellular gaps. No standalone active properties.
Triethylhexanoin is a synthetic ester of glycerol and 2-ethylhexanoic acid. Liquid, odourless, with a light slippery texture. It replaced mineral oil and cyclic silicones in many clean formulas after the 2010s. Mechanism. Ester emollient – fills intercorneocyte spaces, smooths skin, leaves a thin non-greasy finish. Dissolves UV filters well (especially octocrylene and avobenzone) and works as a 'noseyный' carrier in sunscreens. Oxidatively stable – does not degrade with heat and UV. Where applied. Sunscreens (very common in Heliocare 360, Isdin Fotoultra, La Roche-Posay Anthelios Invisible Fluid), foundations, primers, light serums and creams, products for oily skin. Effective at 5-30%. Evidence base. As a functional ingredient. BASF studies (manufacturer of Cetiol 868, the trade name of triethylhexanoin) show improved UV-filter penetration and extended photostability. Doesn't treat the skin but makes the formula work better. Safety. CIR confirmed safety in 2008. Non-sensitising, non-comedogenic (rating 0). Replacement for mineral oil and silicones for clean-positioned brands. Pregnancy and lactation – safe. Usable in sunscreens and creams without restrictions.

The Evigrade extension adds an evidence panel to Wildberries, Goldapple, Letu, iHerb, Sephora and 12 more stores. This ingredient and every other one in the product show evidence-tier, allergen risk and pregnancy/lactation flags at a glance.
Triethylhexanoin is considered safe during pregnancy at typical cosmetic concentrations. Systemic absorption through the skin is minimal.
Triethylhexanoin suits: normal, dry, combination, oily, sensitive.
