Also known as: Luteal support IVF
Drugs used for this condition
- AProgesterone, micronizedFirst line · Progestogens — progesterone derivativesStandard for luteal phase support in ART per ESHRE 2019. Vaginal forms 200 mg three times daily from embryo transfer day until 8–12 weeks of pregnancy. Cochrane meta-analyses favor the vaginal route over oral and find it comparable to IM injectable.
- BDydrogesteroneFirst line · Progestogens — pregnadiene derivativesThe Lotus I and Lotus II trials showed oral dydrogesterone 30 mg daily was as effective as vaginal micronized progesterone in ART. The primary endpoint was clinical pregnancy; comparable live birth rates were confirmed in an individual-patient meta-analysis. ESHRE conditionally endorses oral dydrogesterone as an alternative; vaginal progesterone remains the standard for luteal phase support.
How to read tiers A–F
Evidence tiers belong to the drug-indication pair, not to the drug as a whole: the same substance can be A for one condition and F for another.
- AStrong evidence – first or second line in international guidelines
- BRecommended in selected cases
- CStudy data contradict each other
- DBenefit not proven, no documented harm
- FDocumented harm, or risk without benefit
