Typical scenarios

Nursing mothers most often check four product categories:

– Face creams: retinol, retinyl esters, hydroquinone, oxybenzone – avoid.
– Sunscreens: mineral filters (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) are safe; oxybenzone and octocrylene are avoided.
– Acne actives: salicylic acid above 2% and adapalene are avoided; niacinamide and azelaic acid 15–20% are safe.
– Shampoos and anti-dandruff: 3% salicylic acid on the whole scalp regularly is avoided; ciclopirox and ketoconazole are discussed with the clinician.
