Anti-aging and longevity
Not recommended
Nattokinase is presented as «healthy-vessel and longevity protection» on TikTok, at anti-ageing conferences, and in preventive-medicine clinics. The hypothesis leans on Japan's low cardiovascular disease rate and traditional natto breakfast consumption. This correlation has been examined repeatedly in epidemiology, but population-level causality between natto and cardiologic longevity has not been established – lower BMI, fish and tea intake, low red-meat consumption, low obesity prevalence, and active lifestyle drive most of the signal. The correlation does not transfer to capsules of purified nattokinase: RCTs with hard endpoints of lifespan or cardiovascular mortality have not been done. Chen 2018 (Biomark Insights) reviewed small series showing 3-5 mm Hg systolic blood-pressure reductions in short-term studies, but methodological quality is low (open-label, small samples, varied doses). and prevention guidelines rely on blood-pressure control (target 120-129 mm Hg for most), statins for dyslipidaemia, metformin and incretins for diabetes, smoking cessation, and a Mediterranean diet. Nattokinase is not in these recommendations.
