FIB-4 — non-invasive liver fibrosis index
Non-invasive index of advanced liver fibrosis from age, AST, ALT, and platelets. Used as first-line screening in NAFLD and chronic viral hepatitis.
About this calculator
FIB-4 was developed by Sterling et al. (2006) for HIV/HCV coinfected patients and validated for other chronic liver diseases. AGA Clinical Practice Guideline 2023 recommends FIB-4 as first-line fibrosis screening in NAFLD. Cutoffs: < 1.3 — fibrosis unlikely; > 2.67 — likely. In patients ≥ 65, the lower cutoff is raised to 2.0.
