Convert any glucocorticoid dose to equivalents of any other: hydrocortisone, prednisone, methylprednisolone, dexamethasone.
Equivalent doses are based on anti-inflammatory potency vs hydrocortisone: hydrocortisone 20 mg = prednisone 5 mg = methylprednisolone 4 mg = dexamethasone 0.75 mg = betamethasone 0.6 mg. Useful for switching routes (IV → oral) and selecting by pharmacodynamics: hydrocortisone retains mineralocorticoid activity (needed in Addison disease replacement); dexamethasone has none and suits cerebral oedema; methylprednisolone with shorter T½ than prednisone suits pulse therapy.
