D

Herpes simplex

Not recommended

For recurrent HSV-1 and HSV-2, allokin-alfa in Russia is indicated for short courses of subcutaneous injections. The CDC and the European IUSTI/ guidelines do not list the drug. D

Human papillomavirus (HPV)

Not recommended

In Russia, allokin-alfa is heavily marketed for HPV infection, which is its flagship use. There are no clinical data for alloferon in HPV specifically: no comparative studies or RCTs have been published, and the drug is absent from international and Spanish guidelines. Most HPV infections clear on their own within 1 to 2 years through the immune response. No antiviral treatment for the infection itself is proven; management rests on vaccination, cervical screening, and treatment of existing lesions such as warts or dysplasia. Allokin-alfa does not replace screening or vaccination.
