Anti-aging and longevity
Not recommended
Royal jelly is marketed as a «longevity secret» and «youth elixir», invoking the lifespan difference between worker bees and the queen. This argument is biologically wrong: the difference reflects the genetic programme of a social insect, not a transferable human effect. RCTs of longevity and age-related mortality reduction with royal jelly do not exist. Proven methods to extend active life are smoking cessation, Mediterranean diet, physical activity, control of blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes (, , ). Royal jelly is not in these guidelines. Given the high allergen risk, the «rejuvenation» idea creates a real chance of anaphylactic shock instead of the promised youth. If royal jelly was bought «for longevity», discuss with a doctor; basic prevention and regular monitoring work – the bee secretion does not.
