Acetic acid (INCI: Acetic Acid) is the acid of vinegar, used in cosmetics at minimal doses as a pH regulator. Its function is to bring the formula's acidity to the range it needs, which keeps other ingredients and preservatives stable. In the finished product and at those concentrations, it is not felt on the skin. This is a purely functional component, not a skincare active. It provides no hydration, glow, or barrier effect; its role is only technical. The product's effectiveness is judged by its actives, not by this pH adjustment. For topical use at cosmetic doses there is no systemic risk. It can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance at these low concentrations is good, with low irritation and allergy potential. In concentrated form acetic acid would be irritating, but that is not the case in a finished formula.
