Anethole (INCI: Anethole) is an aromatic fragrance component. It gives the characteristic smell of anise and is used to scent cosmetic formulas, not to care for skin. This is a functional, fragrance-linked ingredient, not a skincare active. Its only role is scent. No benefit on wrinkles, pigment or texture should be expected from it. In topical use at low perfumery concentrations it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. An honest caveat fits here: although the irritation potential is low, the contact allergy risk is moderate. In people already sensitized to fragrance it can trigger a reaction, so on reactive skin or with dermatitis it is reasonable to prefer fragrance-free formulas. On most skin it causes no trouble.
