Collagen with enzymatically cleaved telopeptides at the molecule ends. Removing terminal regions lowers immunogenicity and eases protein handling in formulas.
Topical application
CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
Works topically as a film former and humectant. The molecule is too large to penetrate skin and stimulate endogenous collagen synthesis.
Atelocollagen is a collagen with telopeptides – short terminal regions responsible for intermolecular cross-linking and most of the antigenic properties – enzymatically removed. Sourced from bovine or porcine skin, occasionally fish and chicken cartilage. Mechanism. Without telopeptides the protein loses its main allergenic potential and becomes nearly invisible to the immune system. In solution it forms triple helices like native collagen, but does not cross-link into large fibres. On skin it acts mainly as a film-former: as it dries, it locks in moisture and temporarily smooths fine lines. The hypothesis of "amino-acid delivery for dermal collagen synthesis" via intact skin is unlikely – the molecule is too large. Where applied. Sheet masks, hydrating serums, anti-age claim creams, post-procedure products. K-beauty (Sulwhasoo, Atomy), Japanese brands (Fancl, Shiseido). Concentration 0.1–3%. In Spain there are few 'atelocollagen' brands; it is more common in imported K-beauty lines via Druni and Sephora ES. Evidence base. Cosmetic RCTs of topical collagen of any form (native, hydrolysed, atelocollagen) show weak and short-term hydration gains. No direct long-term anti-aging effect. Medical uses of atelocollagen as a carrier for injectable drugs and as a cell-culture scaffold are unrelated to cosmetics. Safety. CIR confirmed safety of hydrolysed collagen for cosmetics. Atelocollagen has even lower allergenic potential, but isolated sensitisation cases were reported when working with the biomaterial in medicine. Non-comedogenic, non-irritating. In pregnancy – safe topically. No direct lactation data, but the risk is purely theoretical: the molecule does not enter the bloodstream. Realistic assessment. A good film-former and humectant for masks and serums with a pleasant feel. Not a source of dermal collagen. For an anti-aging pick choose retinol, peptides, or vitamin C – their evidence is orders of magnitude stronger.

SafeThe Evigrade extension adds an evidence panel to Wildberries, Goldapple, Letu, iHerb, Sephora and 12 more stores. This ingredient and every other one in the product show evidence-tier, allergen risk and pregnancy/lactation flags at a glance.
Atelocollagen is considered safe during pregnancy at typical cosmetic concentrations. Systemic absorption through the skin is minimal.
