Nonionic emulsifier and solubilizer based on ethoxylated fatty alcohols. Holds oil and water in one phase and helps dissolve oils and fragrance in water-based products. Sits in the base of creams and emulsions. No standalone effects, pregnancy-safe.

BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
Functional nonionic emulsifier and solubilizer. Holds oil and water in one phase. No standalone effects.
Ceteareth-60 Myristyl Glycol is a nonionic emulsifier. It is a blend of polyethylene-glycol ethers of cetearyl alcohol (about 60 ethylene-oxide units on average) with myristyl glycol. INCI: Ceteareth-60 Myristyl Glycol. In a formula it holds the emulsion together: it binds the oil and water phases of a cream so they do not separate, and it also solubilizes small amounts of oils or fragrance in clear water-based products. The high degree of ethoxylation makes it readily water-soluble. It appears in creams, emulsions, cleansers, and toners. Use levels are usually low. Pregnancy safety. The molecule is large and penetrates intact skin poorly, so systemic absorption is negligible. No teratogenicity data of concern. It can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Tolerance. Irritation and allergen potential are low. As with all ethoxylated ingredients, there is a raw-material caveat about the 1,4-dioxane impurity formed during ethoxylation; manufacturers strip it by vacuum stripping, and CIR considers residual levels acceptable. The ingredient has no standalone cosmetic effects. It is a structural base of the formula.

Ceteareth-60 Myristyl Glycol is considered safe during pregnancy at typical cosmetic concentrations. Systemic absorption through the skin is minimal.
