Hydrolyzed protein from animal or fish connective tissue. In cosmetics works as a humectant and film-former: binds water on the surface of the stratum corneum, temporarily smooths the skin. The molecule is too large to reach the dermis and build collagen there. The effect is superficial and short-lived.
Topical application
CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
Surface humectant. Topical collagen does not build the skin's own collagen – the molecule does not pass through the epidermis. 'Collagen lifting' marketing claims are not supported by RCTs.
Collagen Extract is hydrolyzed collagen from animal (bovine, porcine) or fish connective tissue. After hydrolysis the molecular weight drops to 1-10 kDa as the protein breaks down into peptide fragments. Mechanism in cosmetics. A hydrolyzed fragment is smaller than native collagen but still too large for deep penetration. On skin it gives a humectant and film-forming effect: binds water on the stratum corneum surface, smooths temporarily. Manufacturers repeat claims of 'rebuilding dermal collagen via topical use'; direct clinical evidence is weak. Where applied. Mid-priced serums and creams, sheet masks, shampoos and conditioners (works as a surface moisturizer on hair). In Spain – Babaria, Bella Aurora, Postquam, in K-beauty branded Asian lines. Evidence base. Hexsel 2017, open-label, showed improved hydration and elasticity with daily collagen hydrolysate cream over 12 weeks – comparable to a glycerin-containing control. The main collagen evidence base remains oral. Safety. CIR confirmed hydrolyzed collagen safe. Hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic. Allergic reactions rare. Pregnancy and lactation – safe topically. Best suited to: dry and dehydrated skin. As a single anti-wrinkle ingredient it doesn't do much, but as part of a multi-component humectant formula it's a normal humectant.

The Evigrade extension adds an evidence panel to Wildberries, Goldapple, Letu, iHerb, Sephora and 12 more stores. This ingredient and every other one in the product show evidence-tier, allergen risk and pregnancy/lactation flags at a glance.
Collagen Extract is considered safe during pregnancy at typical cosmetic concentrations. Systemic absorption through the skin is minimal.
