Glycol with two propylene units. Dissolves fragrances and actives, holds water in the stratum corneum and reduces formula viscosity.
Topical application
CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
Multi-functional solvent with low irritation potential. Contact reactions are less frequent than with propylene glycol.
Dipropylene Glycol (DPG) is a synthetic glycol with two propylene glycol units. A clear viscous liquid with a slightly sweet taste and low odor. Produced by dimerization of propylene glycol. Mechanism. Universal solvent. Dissolves fragrances, essential oils, active ingredients, UV filters. A humectant with a mild moisture-retention effect in the stratum corneum. Reduces formula viscosity, improves distribution and absorption. Compared with propylene glycol – less skin irritation and less frequent contact dermatitis. Where applied. Perfumery (as solvent), color cosmetics (mascara, shadows, foundations), serums and creams with active ingredients, antiperspirant deodorants, hair products. In Spain – mass-market decorative lines L'Oréal, Maybelline, Bourjois, Mercadona Sublime perfumery. Evidence base. A functional component with many years of use. Solvent and humectant efficacy confirmed. No active skin pharmacology. Safety. CIR in 2012 confirmed Dipropylene Glycol safety in cosmetic use at concentrations up to 30%. The EU permits it in cosmetics without concentration restrictions. Contact allergies are rare, noticeably less common than with propylene glycol. Pregnancy and lactation – safe at standard cosmetic concentrations. Best suited to: any skin type. A good choice for patients who don't tolerate propylene glycol – DPG is usually better tolerated.

The Evigrade extension adds an evidence panel to Wildberries, Goldapple, Letu, iHerb, Sephora and 12 more stores. This ingredient and every other one in the product show evidence-tier, allergen risk and pregnancy/lactation flags at a glance.
Dipropylene Glycol is considered safe during pregnancy at typical cosmetic concentrations. Systemic absorption through the skin is minimal.
Dipropylene Glycol suits: normal, dry, oily, combination, sensitive.
