INCI: Ficus Carica (Fig) Seed Oil
Oil from fig seeds rich in linoleic and oleic acids. Softens skin and supports the lipid barrier without a heavy film.
Topical application
CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
Fig seed oil contains fatty acids that support the barrier. Few large clinical studies exist on finished cosmetic products.
Fig seed oil (Ficus Carica Oil) is pressed from fig (Ficus carica) seeds. Contains linoleic (~50%) and oleic (~30%) acids, phytosterols, tocopherols. Where applied. Creams and serums for dry and mature skin, body balms, soap. Frequently in niche Mediterranean cosmetics. The native scent is light and does not dominate the formula. Evidence base. On skin it works as a standard fatty dry emollient with barrier support. Direct clinical RCTs of fig oil are few; data come from comparison with other plant oils high in linoleic acid (rosehip, walnut, grape seed) – Vaughn 2018 showed comparable barrier improvement in atopic dermatitis. Safety. CIR confirmed safety of the seed oil. Note: fig leaves and fruit are phototoxic on skin (psoralen, bergapten) and can cause phytophotodermatitis. Purified seed oil contains no photosensitizing furanocoumarins. Comedogenicity 2/5. Pregnancy – safe topically. Lactation – no data, but topical use poses no documented systemic risk.

Ficus Carica Oil is considered safe during pregnancy at typical cosmetic concentrations. Systemic absorption through the skin is minimal.
Ficus Carica Oil suits: dry, normal, combination.
