Isohexadecane is a synthetic branched hydrocarbon with 16 carbon atoms. Clear oily odorless liquid, unlike isododecane it does not evaporate. Where applied. Emollient in creams, lotions, makeup removers, BB creams, primers, lipsticks (1-15%). Provides a "dry" finish without oily shine, dissolves pigments and silicone oils well – popular in color cosmetics. In Spain in Bioderma Sensibio, Sesderma Acglicolic, Garnier micellar waters. Safety. CIR rated isohexadecane safe at current cosmetic concentrations (2012, re-evaluated 2018). EU SCCS has set no restrictions. Irritation and sensitization are rare. Not comedogenic. Pregnancy and lactation – safe topically. Suitable for all skin types.
