Laureth-3 is a nonionic surfactant based on lauryl alcohol with a short chain of three ethylene-oxide units. INCI: Laureth-3. In a formula it works as an emulsifier and co-surfactant: it binds oil and water and helps form and stabilize emulsions. It is a functional component, not a skincare active. Because of the short ethoxylate chain it is more lipophilic and often works paired with more water-soluble emulsifiers. Pregnancy safety. Systemic absorption through intact skin is low and there is no evidence of harm. It can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Tolerance. Irritation and allergen potential are low. As with ethoxylated raw materials, the standard caveat about 1,4-dioxane removal in manufacturing applies.
