INCI: Inositol Hexaphosphate
Mild acid from rice bran and legumes. Works as a metal chelator, antioxidant and gentle exfoliant for sensitive skin.
Topical application
CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
Chelates iron and copper, reducing oxidative stress in skin. The depigmenting effect stays modest and works better in pairs with other actives.
Phytic Acid (INCI Inositol Hexaphosphate, IP6) is a natural compound of inositol and six phosphate groups. Found in rice bran, legumes, nuts, whole grains. In cosmetics – a mild metal chelator, antioxidant and gentle exfoliant. Where applied. Serums, brightening creams, mild peels, sensitive-skin products (0.5-2%). Alternative to glycolic acid in patients who do not tolerate AHAs. Common in Asian cosmetics; in Spain – Sesderma C-Vit. Mechanism. Binds iron, copper, zinc ions – blocking catalysis of free-radical reactions in skin (antioxidant effect via chelation). Acts on pigmentation through tyrosinase inhibition (a metal-dependent enzyme). Exfoliation milder than AHA: pH 4-5, sheds surface corneocytes without irritation. Evidence base. Tafazoli (J Cosmet Dermatol 2019) showed 25-30% melasma and PIH reduction over 12 weeks of 1% phytic acid – weaker than 4% hydroquinone but without side effects. Comparative RCT (Kornhauser 2013) showed 0.4% phytic acid combined with 8% glycolic acid effective in actinic keratosis. Safety. CIR confirmed safety up to 2%. Hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic. Irritation minimal. Does not photosensitise; unlike AHAs it does not require mandatory SPF (though daily SPF 30+ is always recommended regardless of ingredient). Pregnancy and lactation – safe. Suitable at any stage. Considered one of the few alternatives to hydroquinone and azelaic acid in gestational melasma when patients cannot tolerate other agents.

The Evigrade extension adds an evidence panel to Wildberries, Goldapple, Letu, iHerb, Sephora and 12 more stores. This ingredient and every other one in the product show evidence-tier, allergen risk and pregnancy/lactation flags at a glance.
Phytic Acid is considered safe during pregnancy at typical cosmetic concentrations. Systemic absorption through the skin is minimal.
Phytic Acid suits: normal, oily, combination, dry, sensitive.
