N-Hydroxysuccinimide is a molecule that cosmetics use as an iron chelator. The manufacturer links it to reduced dark circles: by binding iron released from blood under the thin skin of the eye area, it aims to soften the bluish-brown tone there. The mechanism is plausible, but real-world effectiveness is another matter. The available data come mainly from the manufacturer and independent data are scarce. Dark circles have many causes (pigment, vascularity, structural shadow), and a single chelator does not cover them all. It is reasonable to see it as a supporting active with a modest result, not a guaranteed fix. Applied topically its systemic absorption is minimal, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerability is good, with low irritation and allergy potential.
