Unshiu mandarin peel extract (INCI: Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract) is a botanical rich in flavonoids such as hesperidin and naringenin. In a formula it works as a supporting additive: it brings antioxidants and a feel of more toned skin with a more even tone. On efficacy moderation is in order. Citrus flavonoids hold experimental interest as antioxidants, but specific topical clinical evidence for evening out tone is limited. It is a reasonable support component, not a brightener with solid backing; for tone, well-formulated vitamin C or daily sun protection do more. Topically it has no meaningful systemic passage, so the extract can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. On tolerance, irritation potential is low but allergy potential is medium: citrus extracts can sensitize predisposed people. Most tolerate it well; reactive skin should patch test first.
