Apple Fruit Extract (Pyrus Malus Fruit Extract) is a water or glycolic extract of apple flesh. Contains malic acid (AHA), quercetin, epicatechin, ascorbic acid at natural concentrations. Where applied. Toners, masks, serums, moisturisers (0.5-3%). Marketed as "natural AHA" and "fruit-extract hydration". Evidence base. Malic acid concentration in the extract is low (usually <0.5% in finished formula) – exfoliating effect is weak. Polyphenols show in vitro antioxidant activity. Few standalone clinical RCTs of apple extract on skin. Safety. Hypoallergenic. Allergic reactions rare. Possible cross-reactivity with birch and alder pollen (oral allergy syndrome) – usually does not extend to topical use. Pregnancy and lactation – safe. Suitable in any product.
