A natural trisaccharide – glucose, fructose and galactose combined. In cosmetics works as an 'osmolyte' humectant: helps the cell retain water under dehydration stress (similar to trehalose). Used in products for dry and dehydrated skin. Safe.
Topical application
CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
Humectant from the osmolyte group. In vitro works as a cellular dehydration protector. Few direct human RCTs, but a safe profile and clear mechanism.
Raffinose is a natural trisaccharide: glucose, fructose, and galactose joined by glycosidic bonds. Found in sugar beet seeds, legumes, asparagus, and whole grains. In cosmetics it is added as an osmolyte – a substance that helps cells retain water under dehydration stress. Mechanism. Osmolytes accumulate in cytoplasm when environmental humidity drops. The cell does not lose water across the osmotic gradient. The same principle works for trehalose, ectoin, and betaine. On skin, raffinose acts as an adjunct humectant complementing the primary one (glycerin, hyaluronic acid). Where applied. Serums and creams for dehydrated skin, after-sun products, post-active products, formulas for very dry climates (0.1-2%). Found in Sesderma and Bioderma sensitive and dry-skin lines. Evidence base. Few topical human trials. In vitro models and analogy with other sugar osmolytes support the moisturizing function. Raffinose does not work as a standalone anti-aging or restorative active. Safety. CIR rated the safety of plant-derived di- and trisaccharides as high. Hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, non-irritating. No systemic absorption. Pregnancy and lactation – safe. No restrictions in any product, including face, body, breast, and abdomen creams.

The Evigrade extension adds an evidence panel to Wildberries, Goldapple, Letu, iHerb, Sephora and 12 more stores. This ingredient and every other one in the product show evidence-tier, allergen risk and pregnancy/lactation flags at a glance.
Raffinose is considered safe during pregnancy at typical cosmetic concentrations. Systemic absorption through the skin is minimal.
Raffinose suits: normal, dry, combination, oily, sensitive.
