Sclareol (INCI Sclareol) is a natural compound from clary sage (Salvia sclarea). In cosmetics it is used mainly as an aromatic component and fragrance note, found in perfumes and scented products. On efficacy it is worth being clear: this is a sensory and fragrance component, not a care active. It provides scent, with no proven role on skin condition. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The point to watch is sensitization. Irritation potential is low, but allergy potential is medium: in people already sensitized to fragrance components a contact reaction can appear. Most people do not react, but if you have reactive skin or a history of perfume allergy, it is worth patch-testing the product on a small area first.
