It keeps pigments and mineral particles evenly suspended and stops them clumping, which helps coloured products and mineral filters look and apply uniformly. This is a functional ingredient, not a skincare active. It does not treat the skin; its job is dispersion stability and even spread of pigment or mineral. A recognised technical role in makeup and sunscreen formulation. Applied topically there is no meaningful systemic absorption, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: low irritation and allergy potential, compatible with sensitive skin. It is used in small proportions, and as an auxiliary polymer it rarely causes a skin reaction.
