Essential branched-chain amino acid. As part of amino acid complexes mildly hydrates by incorporating into the stratum corneum NMF. No standalone activity on skin, works in synergy with other amino acids and low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid.
Topical application
CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
Part of NMF-mimicking complexes. Well tolerated, modest and complex-dependent effect.
Valine (L-Valine) is an essential branched-chain amino acid (BCAA). The body uses it for protein synthesis and muscle mass maintenance. In skin – a component of NMF and amino-acid complexes in skincare. Mechanism. Within NMF it retains moisture thanks to the hygroscopic properties of amino-acid groups. On its own it has no specific skin activity – it works synergistically with other amino acids and low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid. Where applied. Amino acid complexes in moisturising serums and creams, sensitive-skin products. In Spain – in La Roche-Posay Hyalu B5, Bioderma Hydrabio, Sesderma Hidraderm lines. Use levels: 0.1-0.5%. Evidence base. Functional NMF ingredient without specific RCTs using isolated valine. NMF amino acids are known to make up 40% of its mass; NMF decline in dry skin is well documented (Verdier-Sevrain 2007). Safety. CIR confirmed the safety of all cosmetic amino acids in 2017. Non-sensitising, non-comedogenic. Pregnancy and lactation – safe. Usable without restrictions.

The Evigrade extension adds an evidence panel to Wildberries, Goldapple, Letu, iHerb, Sephora and 12 more stores. This ingredient and every other one in the product show evidence-tier, allergen risk and pregnancy/lactation flags at a glance.
Valine is considered safe during pregnancy at typical cosmetic concentrations. Systemic absorption through the skin is minimal.
Valine suits: normal, dry, combination, oily, sensitive.
Essential branched-chain amino acid.
The INCI name is Valine. It may also appear as: L-Valine, Валин.
