Alumina (aluminum oxide) is a mineral powder. INCI: Alumina. In a formula it covers several technical jobs: it acts as a filler and thickener, adds opacity, works as a mild mechanical abrasive in scrubs, and coats pigment and mineral UV-filter particles for better stability. It is a functional component, not a skincare active. It has no action on skin of its own. Pregnancy safety. An inert mineral, it does not penetrate skin, is systemically negligible, and there is no evidence of harm. It can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Tolerance. Irritation and allergen potential are low. As an abrasive in scrubs, dry and sensitive skin should choose gentle formulas and avoid scrubbing hard.
