Mugwort oil (INCI: Artemisia Vulgaris Oil) is an essential oil from the plant of the same name. In cosmetics it mainly adds fragrance and a calming herbal feel. It is a sensory ingredient, not a treatment active: it does not correct wrinkles, spots or acne. Expectations are worth keeping grounded. Essential oils add scent and use experience, but their evidence as care actives is thin. Here the real value is olfactory, so we judge it as a decorative, aromatic component. Applied topically in cosmetics its systemic passage is negligible, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding, better at low concentrations and in rinse-off or short-contact products. On tolerance: irritation potential is low but allergy potential is medium – it holds volatile compounds that can sensitize predisposed people. Most do not react, though reactive or dermatitis-prone skin should patch test a small area first.
