Polyglyceryl-2 Sesquiisostearate is a mild emulsifier derived from glycerin. It stabilises emulsions, especially the water-in-oil type, and gives the product a dense, nourishing texture. This is a functional ingredient, not an active. It does not act on wrinkles or pigment; its role is to hold the blend together and give the formula body and a rich feel. Polyglyceryl emulsifiers are valued for being kind to skin, a gentle alternative to more detergent-like systems. Applied topically there is no meaningful systemic absorption, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is high: low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. Coming from glycerin and fatty acids, it is kind to the barrier and rarely causes a reaction, even on reactive skin.
