Polyglyceryl-4 Laurate (INCI: Polyglyceryl-4 Laurate) is a plant-derived emulsifier made from glycerin and lauric acid. In a formula it joins water and oil and helps create soft textures; in cleansers it can also act as a very gentle surfactant. This is a functional component, not a skincare active. Its value lies in formula structure and softness, not in a direct effect on the skin, so there is no point grading it by treatment results. In pregnancy and breastfeeding it can be used without restriction; it has no systemic relevance topically. Tolerance is good. Its surfactant character is mild, so it respects the barrier better than harsh detergents and rarely dries the skin. Irritation and allergy potential is low, sensitive skin included.
