Polyglyceryl-3 laurate (INCI: Polyglyceryl-3 Laurate) is a non-ionic emulsifier derived from glycerin and lauric acid. Its job in a formula is to bind the oil and water phases so light emulsions and gentle cleansers stay stable. It is a functional component, not a care active. Because it helps the formulator build fluid, skin-friendly textures, it is one of the kindest emulsifiers in its class. It is not there to treat skin, but to give the product the right structure and feel. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good, the allergy potential is low and it counts as a mild surfactant, so it rarely dries the skin. Its comedogenicity is very low (1 out of 5), so it also fits oily or acne-prone skin.
